What Does Botox Do?

Dr. Kong uses Botox to treat a wide range of problem areas for facial rejuvenation. Common Botox treatment areas include frown lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet, wrinkles on the nose, wrinkles on the lips, dimpling on the chin, neck lines, as well as overly active sweat glands.

How Does Botox Work?

Botox, a purified neurotoxin, erases lines and creases by weakening wrinkle-producing facial muscles. It must be artfully injected into specific points around your face in order to avoid paralyzing the wrong facial muscles and producing a “frozen” look. This requires the skill of a skincare professional such as Dr. Kong, who has years of experience administering this product.

A Botox Treatment Session

During Botox treatment, Dr. Kong uses a very thin needle to carefully inject small amounts of Botox into specific facial muscles. The Botox blocks the nerve impulses that cause muscles to contract and produce wrinkles. The number of injections that she administers depends on several factors, including the severity of your wrinkles. Light crow’s feet usually require two to three injections, whereas deeper furrows above the brow can require five or more.

Botox treatment is not painful and does not require anesthesia, but Dr. Kong may apply topical anesthetic to eliminate any discomfort. You may notice some redness at the treatment site, but this is temporary. You will be free to resume your normal activities immediately after treatment. It is important to remember not to rub or massage the treated area after your procedure, as this may cause the Botox to migrate and produce complications.

The results of Botox treatment are usually noticeable within a few days, but it can take up to a week to see your final results.

Benefits of Botox Treatment

Botox is administered in the comfort of Dr. Kong’s office, rather than an operating room. Treatment does not require anesthesia (only topical anesthetic in some cases), and there are no surgical incisions or scarring. The effects last for three to four months and can be maintained with repeat treatments.*
